Vehicle Story

This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster has covered 76,000 miles since new and offers both a cloth soft top as well as a color-matched removable hardtop with a storage stand. Reportedly owned by the prior owner in the Palm Springs, California area for 23 years, it is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power windows, woodgrain interior trim, a Becker Mexico radio with a power antenna, and air conditioning. Finished in yellow over a tan MB-Tex interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with a removable hardtop and stand, extra keys, and a clear title.

This 450SL is painted yellow and has an accompanying black soft top with plastic rear windows. The exterior brightwork is in good condition, featuring chrome bumpers with guards, side moldings, window surrounds, and sideview mirror caps. Exterior illumination is handled by quad headlamps with factory fog lamps up front and ribbed taillights in the rear.

Factory 14” Bundt wheels are chrome-finished and wrapped in new tires. The front suspension is comprised of double wishbones with coil springs, and the rear has a diagonal swing axle. Stabilizer bars are equipped both front and rear, and disc brakes are set up on all four corners.

The interior is fitted with tan MB-Tex upholstery for the front bucket seats with matching door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Woodgrain trim adorns the dash and the center console, and additional amenities include power windows, air conditioning with automatic climate control, cruise control, and a factory-installed Becker Mexico radio with a power antenna.

Instrumentation is comprised of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 76k miles which the seller states is an actual reading.

The 4.5-liter V8 is equipped with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection and had factory ratings of 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. The battery has been replaced recently, and power is directed to the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission and a gated shift lever.

Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes extra keys and the hardtop with a stand.

The text says V8 but the distributor cap would indicate only a six cylinder. Is it a six or and eight?
