Vehicle Story

This 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster comes with two available top configurations including a factory color-matched removable hardtop as well as a black cloth top. Power is derived from a 3.8-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and interior conveniences include power accessories, woodgrain trim, and automatic climate control. Finished in beige over a saddle interior, this R107 380SL is now offered with a CARFAX report with a clear California title in the seller’s name.

Sales for the Mercedes-Benz R107-chassis models started in the early 1970s, and beginning in 1981, the 380SL was a replacement for the previous 450SL. This example is painted beige and features chrome bumpers with black guards, factory fog lamps, black side moldings, and chrome-finished sideview mirror caps.

Factory 14” Bundt wheels are wrapped to 205/70-sized tires.

The interior offers dual saddle leather bucket seats with matching door panels, armrests, and carpeting. A woodgrain applique is featured on the two-tone dash and the center console, and amenities include automatic climate control, power windows, power door locks, and cruise control.

Instrumentation is provided by an 85-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer, along with accompanying gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature and instantaneous MPG. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 104k miles, which per the seller is actual, original mileage.

The 3.8-liter SOHC V8 was factory rated at 155 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission and a console-mounted shift lever.

Additional photos showing the condition of the underside are provided in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows no evidence of prior accidents or damage.
