This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is a largely original sports coupe that comes with a color-matched hardtop, whitewall tires, and is powered by a 283ci V8 paired with a replacement Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. Coming from 10-year seller ownership, this Corvette recently underwent mechanical servicing including brake replacement, and is said to exhibit solid driving performance. Finished in Ermine White with silver coves over a red vinyl interior, this C1 Corvette is now offered with the hardtop and with a clear Alabama registration in the seller’s name.
The first-generation Corvette appeared in 1953 and underwent some cosmetic changes in subsequent years including the addition of two-lens taillamps beginning in 1961. This example was the subject of a full prior restoration and was resprayed Ermine White with silver coves, accented with brightwork for the bumpers, grille, window surrounds, and other exterior trim. A color-matched hardtop is included, and exterior condition is reported to be excellent throughout the perimeter.
Factory 15” steel wheels with full covers are wrapped in 215/70 wide whitewall tires. The brakes were replaced in 2020.
The interior offers seating for two with dual red vinyl bucket seats and matching lap belts, door panels, dash, and replacement carpeting topped with floor mats. Finishes are accented by bright trim on the door panels, center stack, and a scooped Corvette-branded recess on the passenger side dash. A newer radio has been installed, and the driver side windshield wiper does not work per the seller.
Instrumentation includes a semi-circular 160-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. An analog clock is mounted at the lower end of the center stack. The seller states that the speedometer does not work, and although a five-digit mechanical odometer is equipped showing just under 10k miles, true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 283ci V8 carried an original factory rating of 230 horsepower and resides in a matte black engine bay featuring a four-barrel carburetor and a chrome-finished air cleaner. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a replacement Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission and a floor-mounted shift lever.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes a color-matched factory hardtop.

@Jsyl10 – I was wondering if you can verify if the frame on the rear passenger side has been patched right before the frame goes over the axle? Looks like it was in the picture but wanted to verify it. ...
It doesn't appear to be.

@vettaholic – No photo or mention of a soft top.????? ...
When I say it didn't come with one, I was told that in 61 you had the option of a soft or hard top. This one has ever had a soft.
@Canvasman – Do you know what the paint is-Laquer, acrylic enamel, or base clear? ...

@Canvasman – Do you know what the paint is-Laquer, acrylic enamel, or base clear? ...
Not sure what kind of paint it is.
@Canvasman – Hard to see quality of the finish in photos on a white car. How would you rate it 1-10? any major scrapes or chips? Thanks ...
There is one chip in it. When I took out the seats to put in new carpet I scratched the ridge on the driver's side. I would give it a 7 to 8.

@Canvasman – Any information regarding engine and transmission work, clutch would be appreciated. Do all gauges including the speedometer work? Just the odometer not working? Radiator been replaced? aluminum? ...
Haven't touch the transmission and just tuned up the engine. Doesn't have a clutch, automatic. Speedometer is disconnected. Was making a noise. Fuel gauge doesn't work. I restored my 65 Corvette and it's fuel gauge doesn't and it's new. Made in China. I didn't do the restoration so I can't tell you about the radiator. Thanks.
