This 1964 Volkswagen Beetle convertible has been family-owned for 40 years and was restored to its current condition. A full respray in Burgundy Metallic was applied, and the white cloth retractable top was replaced. The powertrain benefitted from a similar overhaul, receiving a replacement dual-carbureted 2.0-liter flat-four paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. Finished over a reupholstered white vinyl interior, this Beetle is now offered with service records and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
This Beetle comes from long-term California history and was purchased by the seller’s father 40 years ago, then subsequently treated to restoration including a respray in the current Burgundy Metallic finish. The white cloth retractable top has been replaced, and bright exterior trim comprises the bumpers with overriders, headlight rings, side moldings, and window surrounds. The seller states that the wiper reservoir is cracked but a new one has been ordered and will be available for the new owner or installed if requested.
Polished aluminum five-spoke wheels are shod in tires with good tread life remaining. The drum brakes have been replaced at both front and rear within the last month by a European specialty facility.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered white vinyl seats, while similar materials are carried through to the door panels with integrated armrests and elastic map pockets. Metal finishes are color-matched in Burgundy Metallic and the replacement carpeting is black, topped by matching mats. A spare tire is mounted in the cargo compartment up front.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames the round chrome-rimmed 90-mph speedometer, with an accompanying fuel gauge located to the right. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 36k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The replacement 1,835cc flat-four features dual carburetors and was the recipient of recent servicing. The master cylinder, fuel tank, and fuel lines were replaced, and a tune-up was performed by a specialty facility in Solana Beach, California in June 2021. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle with a T-handle floor-mounted shift lever.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes service records. The seller notes the surforboard pictured will not be included in the sale.
