Vehicle Story

This 1965 Ford Mustang convertible was subject to a restoration that preserved its original color combination and equipment while also incorporating equipment such as air conditioning, a newer stereo, and a replacement power-operated retractable top. Power comes from a period-correct C-code 289ci Windsor V8 that has been upgraded with a mild camshaft and is backed by a floor-shifted 3-speed C4 automatic transmission. Finished in Raven Black with a white soft top over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with documentation, a convertible boot, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The original Mustang pony car debuted in 1964 sharing common chassis elements with other models in the Ford lineup, offering body styles in hardtop, fastback, and convertible configurations. This 1965 convertible is presented as a recipient of a prior restoration that retained factory-correct color combinations and finishes over a rust-free original body. The paint was reapplied in Raven Black (A) and the contrasting power-operated white soft top was replaced at the same time. Brightwork consists of the front and rear bumpers, windshield surround, trim, badging, and dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear. A snap-on black vinyl convertible boot is included with the sale.

Steel 14” wheels with full bright covers are wrapped in whitewall tires with good tread life remaining. Steering is power-assisted.

The interior has an all-black theme, with Black (26) vinyl fold-forward bucket seat upholstery and aligning colors for the lap belts, door panels, dash, and carpeting. The shift lever is floor-mounted, and amenities include a push-button radio, Mustang-branded rubber floor mats, air conditioning, and a modern stereo connected to a remote-mounted disc changer and amplifier in the trunk. The trunk also contains the spare tire, a vinyl patterned lining, and a matching duffel bag.

Instrumentation includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer bordered by gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer reads 62k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The C-code 289ci Windsor V8 features a chrome-finished air cleaner with factory-correct decals and has been upgraded with a mild camshaft. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 3-speed C4 automatic transmission and a 4.11:1 axle.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes documentation and a convertible boot.

We purchased the car as it is and were told and believe the car had been only recently been painted/restored. We would consider it to be of above average/daily driver quality but not show quality. Thanks for your interest

How would you rate the paint on the car ? It is hard to tell from the pictures. How many miles since the restoration ? Thanks
