Vehicle Story

This 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a restored sports coupe powered by a replacement 327ci V8 paired with a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission with a positraction rear end. Interior amenities include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Hurst shifter, a full gauge set, and reupholstered seating. Finished in white over a red vinyl interior with a center console, this C2 Corvette is now offered with a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

The second-generation Corvette launched in 1963 demonstrating a fastback body design with a long hood and quad hidden headlamps. Changes for the subsequent year included removal of simulated air intakes in the hood, the incorporation of a functional air-exhaust vent on the rear side pillar, and the emergence of a one-piece rear backlight as opposed to the prior split window. This example from 1964 was repainted white under prior ownership and features chrome split bumpers, pop-up headlights, vented front fenders, custom triple taillights, and dual polished exhaust pipes. The seller states that there are small blemishes around the exterior consistent with an older refinish.

Chrome-finished five-spoke wheels show light pitting and are wrapped in staggered-width Firestone tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel cast-iron 11” drums, and suspension underpinnings are comprised of an independent rear end with unequal-length upper and lower A-arms on coil springs up front. Handling is also assisted by a standard anti-roll bar.

The interior exudes a twin-cowl design motif and is fitted with reupholstered red vinyl bucket seats with matching materials for the lap belts, center console, door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include Corvette Stingray badging, a Hurst shift lever with a cue ball knob, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an inoperative Delco AM/FM radio, and a fully carpeted cargo area.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 64k miles, though true chassis mileage is unknown.

The replacement 327ci V8 features chrome-finished valve covers and a K&N chrome-finished air cleaner. Recent maintenance to the powertrain includes an oil and filter change, chassis lube, replacement bushings, and a newer exhaust system. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a positraction differential.

The seller has provided two videos with additional details.

@Richardsbid – What was the source of the replacement engine? ...

The engine is a 327 from that era, but I do not know where it was sourced from. It most definitely was rebuilt at some point and runs strong.

@Richardsbid – Was white/red the original color and interior? Do the hidden headlights work? Any instruments not working? How about a driving video? ...

Apologies for the delay... I honestly do not know if the exterior/interior paint and upholstery are original to the car. What you see is how I bought it. As for the hidden headlights, yes, they function as they should.
