Vehicle Story

This 1966 Mercury Monterey 2-door convertible has been with the seller's family since 2001 and is one of 3,279 convertibles produced for the model year. The car is powered by a rebuilt special order Ford FE 352ci V8 and shifted by way of a 4-speed manual transmission while equipment includes power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning and manually cranked windows. Located in Mission Viejo, California, this 1966 Mercury is offered with service records, the original manual, and a clean California title in the seller's name.

Finished in Vintage Burgundy Irid (cc: X), the exterior features a white convertible top which the seller notes will likely need to be replaced, however, the mechanism itself is said to work properly. Additional accents include chrome bumper and trim pieces and an overall facelift for the model year. The paintwork is not original but has been well maintained since the respray which was commissioned under prior ownership over 20 years ago and some small spots of surface are noted to be present on the underside of the body along with a broken antenna and right blinker.

Power steering is equipped along with power brakes which were recently serviced on the front while the rear drums were done back in 2010. Wheels are chrome turbine-style units and come fitted with a set of thin whitewall tires that ride on factory-correct suspension components.

The interior is outfitted in white vinyl over the front and rear bench seats and door panels on top of black carpeting with a matching black dash and stainless hardware as an accent. Factory air conditioning is equipped along with the stock radio, however, neither is currently in working condition as the air conditioning is in need of a recharge and a working replacement radio is included in the glove box. Some creasing and a tear in the upholstery are noted on the front bench seat which can be observed in gallery photos.

The 5-digit odometer has turned over 60,203 original miles on the chassis and approximately 1,000 on the rebuilt drivetrain. Instrumentation is in working order and consists of a 120-mph speedometer alongside dials for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery voltage.

Power is provided by the rebuilt original 352ci Ford FE V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, a combination which was special ordered for the car upon purchase in 1966. The engine has been driven approximately 1,000 miles since it was given an overhaul in 2010 and a recent service resulted in fresh fluids throughout the engine compartment.

Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
