Vehicle Story

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible received a restoration completed in 1989; in 2016, it was repainted in Red, according to the current owner. Originally built with a 312ci V8, the car has a 272ci V8 that was rebuilt in 2010 and comes connected to an automatic transmission. The cabin is equipped with power steering, power window controls, and aftermarket dual cup holders. Owned by the same person for the past 44 years, this first-generation Thunderbird is available now with a tonneau cover, a ceiling-mounted system for removing the hardtop, and a clear title in the seller's name.

For the 1957 model year, Ford redesigned the Thunderbird and gave it a different front bumper with fog lights, placed the "Thunderbird" script badges on the front fenders, restyled the rear fins, relocated the spare tire into the trunk, and changed the look of the rear end. This particular car underwent a restoration that ended in 1989 and was reportedly repainted in Maserati Red in 2016. That is accented with brightwork at both ends, around the windshield and windows, and on the front fenders and rear fender skirts. A removable white hardtop with portholes sits over the passenger compartment and can be taken off with the ceiling-mounted removal system available with the purchase of this car.

A set of whitewall tires with red accent rings connect this Thunderbird to the road.

The cabin is furnished with red carpeting, a pleated red vinyl bench seat with lap belts, a red dashboard, and red door panels with white lower sections. Metallic trim with an engine-turned finish accents the door panels and dashboard. Equipment includes power steering, power window controls, heat, an AM/FM radio with a tape player, and aftermarket dual cup holders.

Ford equipped the 1957 Thunderbird with a new instrument panel. A bank of round analog gauges in the dashboard provides information in the form of a 5K-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a clock as well as readouts for the fuel level and engine temperature.

As the 10-character serial number provided by the current owner indicates, this Thunderbird was built with a 312ci "Y-block" V8 (D). It currently has a 272ci V8 that was rebuilt in 2010 and comes connected to an automatic transmission. Although the odometer shows 64,000+ miles, approximately 10K-15K miles are on the rebuilt engine.

According to the seller, this car is rust-free and has an undercoating. In addition to power windows and steering, it also has power brakes.

An oil change was performed in late 2020. Sale includes service records.
