Vehicle Story

This 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Sport Coupe is one of 43,272 produced for the model year and is now available after over 3 years of ownership by the seller in with 2,865 reportedly original miles on the odometer. Powered by the factory original 305ci small-block V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, standard equipment includes power steering, power brakes, dual exhaust, heater/defroster and a tachometer along with the optional AM/FM stereo. Located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the car is offered in highly original condition throughout with all maintenance and service records since new along with a clean title in the seller's name.

Both the wheels and front and rear bumpers were repainted while under prior ownership to match the otherwise unrestored and original White (11L) finish which was applied to 16,137 examples in 1981. Exterior features include black and blue Z/28 accent striping along the sides and on the cowl hood, factory optional window tinting and a ducktail rear spoiler. Undercoating was applied shortly after the car was purchased in November of 1981 and no notable blemishes are reported by the seller with the exception of a small amount of surface rust on the underside.

Power steering is equipped to handle a set of 15-inch white 5-spoke mag wheels with chrome Z/28 center caps wrapped in 225/70 Goodyear Polysteel Radials. Front disc brakes and rear drums are equipped for the front tires as standard for the model year along with Special Sport Suspension and a front stabilizer bar. The tires were last rotated in September of 2020 and the driver's side lower control arm was replaced with a new unit in 2019.

The interior is also unrestored and original (CDD2) to the car featuring gray and black cloth upholstery over sport bucket seating with a black vinyl center console, black carpeting and blue vinyl dash and door panels. The Z21 style group is equipped along with factory standard equipment including the heater/defroster with electric rear window defogger, AM/FM stereo system, "Comfortilt" steering column, sound deadening and a sport steering wheel. The seller notes that the car does not have air conditioning and that the heater core, hoses, clamps and drain were replaced in 2019.

Instrumentation is Z/28 specific with an 85-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer and 5-digit odometer which is reported to be in working condition showing only 2,865 original miles. Dials for battery voltage, fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure are present in the cluster as well.

Power is sent to the rear wheels by the original 305ci 165hp small-block V8 and 4-speed manual transmission which was last serviced and inspected in September of 2020 with and oil and oil filter change. Spark plug wires, vacuum wires and coolant were replaced during a 2019 service and the seller has retained all maintenance documentation for the car since it was new in 1981 including a record for a completed catalytic converter recall in 1983.

Many additional photos of this final second-generation Camaro have been made available in the image gallery and thorough documentation along with the original invoice and build sheet for the car will be included with the sale.

@gb70 – Does the radio work, all electrical work, does all the gauges work including the tachometer and clock? Do the lights, horn, turn signals, and reverse lights all work as they should? Any pictures of under the car showing below and light surface rust noted? ...

I tried to show the surface rust in these pictures. All gauges work correctly except the clock. The second hand runs about 15 seconds then stops. Radio and speakers work, all lights work. Not sure if you can tell but I took pics of the turn signals and defroster lit up. Also a pic of light by feet. I hope this helps

@gb70 – Did you keep the original spark plug wires that were changed out in 2020? Are these the original tires? If not, did you get keep the original tires? ...

I saved all parts that were replaced, spark plus wires, vacuum hoses, etc. Even the small light bulb under the hood. My understanding when I purchased this car at Barrett Jackson is that it was all original including the tires. I added a few more pictures of the tires. I hope this helps.
