Vehicle Story

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach I SportsRoof is reportedly an original California car that is powered by its original 351 4V Cobra Jet V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller has driven this car approximately 900 miles during their three years of ownership, and indicates that maintenance is up to date, having received a tune-up and new thermostat two months ago. Finished in aftermarket blue with black accents, a twin-scoop hood, and front and rear spoilers, this garage-kept Mustang is now offered with a Marti report and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The body was repainted blue 10 years ago by the previous owner, and is reported to be rust free and in good condition with the exception of some nicks. Exterior accents include black striping, a black twin-scoop hood, and front and rear spoilers. Brightwork accents the door handles, window trim, and rear bumpers. According to the Marti Report, the original color of this Mustang was Light Pewter Metallic, and was one of only 138 1973 Mach Is produced in that colorway with the 351ci 4V V8 engine and 4-speed manual transmission.

Fifteen-inch Magnum 500 wheels are mounted inside of tires with black sidewalls. Suspension is standard for the model year and consists of a 3.25 Traction-Lok rear axle.

The bucket seat interior with a center console is upholstered in two-tone black and gray over black carpeting and features matching vinyl door and dash panels outfitted with woodgrain and metallic accents. All interior finishes are described as being in great condition, windows are manually cranked, and amenities include an AM/FM radio and car alarm. The seller states that the car is equipped with air conditioning plumbing, but the system is currently not working.

Instrumentation is reportedly working properly and includes a 120-mph speedometer and 8k-rpm tachometer separated by the fuel gauge. Additionally, dials for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and alternator amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The 5-digit odometer displays 53,900 original miles.

This car includes the original 351 4V Cobra Jet V8. The seller states that some engine work was done by the previous owner, including new headers. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with a console-mounted shift lever and 3.25 Traction-Lok rear end.

Photos of the Marti Report included with the sale can be found in the gallery.

If the fifth letter in the Vin # is a Q that is the indication for a cobra jet car. That is also why they call this a Q code car. There are several articles regarding this feel free to Google it.
