1971 CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER

OVERVIEW

This 1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer has been with the seller for 14 years. It is powered by a rebuilt 350cid V8 engine backed by a rebuilt replacement three-speed automatic transmission with a dual range transfer case. Features include power steering and brakes, a non-functioning factory air conditioning system, and a tube front bumper with a brush guard. Finished in blue over white and equipped with a white removable hard top with red cloth and blue vinyl, this Blazer is available now and comes with an original owner’s manual and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

Originally finished in orange over white, the exterior was refinished in blue over white in the late 1990s. Features include white tube bumpers with a front brush guard, dual rear view mirrors, a white removable hardtop, and a trailer hitch. The seller states that rust is present on the driver’s side front pillars and the tailgate.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 15-inch Chevrolet truck rally wheels is wrapped in 33” x 10.5” Mickey Thompson radial tires that were replaced in July 2023. 

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The original front seats have been replaced with later model units. The driver’s seat is upholstered in red cloth, however the passenger seat appears to be faded. The original rear seat and rear trim is upholstered in blue vinyl. Features include manual windows, power steering, a column-mounted automatic transmission shifter, a floor-mounted transfer case shifter, teak wood dashboard inserts, a non-original center console, and dual hardtop roof window-mounted gun racks. The seller states that the weather stripping will need to be replaced and a radio is not present. The factory air conditioning is disconnected.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and battery are located ahead of the driver. Three gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage are located under the dashboard. With 500 miles added during the 14-year ownership, the odometer reads 120,000 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a rebuilt 4-bolt main 350cid V8 engine that was rebuilt in 1996 with a 3/4 Race Crane camshaft and 25,000 miles logged. The rebuilt replacement '70s era three-speed automatic transmission, with a locking torque converter is mated to a rebuilt dual range transfer case with 300 miles logged. Newly installed parts include a fuel pump, fuel lines, a four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor, spark plugs, cap, rotor, the HEI coil, the brake master cylinder and brake booster, the starter, and a battery. The factory air conditioning system has been disconnected and the air conditioning compressor has been removed. The seller states that the power steering works, but leaks and squeaks are present, and the transmission pan leaks. Recent maintenance in July 2023 includes an oil change, a transmission flush, and a radiator flush.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Blazer is factory-equipped with a solid front axle, a solid rear drive axle, with Posi-traction and part-time four-wheel drive. Braking is provided by power disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear. Newly installed parts include front brake pads and calipers, rear brake shoes, and u-joints.
