Vehicle Story

This 1966 Pontiac GTO was acquired by the seller in 2003 and features a 389ci Tri-Power V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car underwent a nut-and-bolt restoration where the color was changed from the original Beige to its current Spiral Gray Metallic over a refreshed interior. Equipped with power brakes and power steering, this GTO is now offered with PHS documentation, records, receipts for the build, and a clean Oklahoma title.

Originally finished in Beige with a black vinyl roof, the body was refinished in Spiral gray during the frame off restoration. The body was taken down to bare metal, and the lower portion of the rear quarter panels were replaced; photos can be seen in the gallery. All chrome and trim are in good condition, as is all glass.

15″ Pontiac Rallye I wheels with chrome center caps and trim rings are mounted with white-letter tires all around, installed 4500 miles ago. The suspension system was rebuilt during the restoration and braking was improved with 4-wheel disc brakes.

The interior sports an original steering wheel and dashboard, while the carpets, interior panels, headliner, and seat covers are new. The center console is trimmed in woodgrain veneer and houses the original chrome shifter for the 4-speed transmission with a white shift knob.

A tan-colored steering wheel fronts a black dashboard with walnut-trimmed instrumentation, including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,100-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows just under 58,000 miles of which the seller states are original and has added close to 5k in 18 years of ownership.

The car was factory-equipped with a WS code 389ci Tri-Power V8 rated at 360 horsepower, currently, it is powered by a YW coded 389ci block from 1966 and equipped with the factory-correct Tri-Power setup and 093 heads. Both the engine and carburetors were rebuilt and sorted, with attention to detail paid during the restoration to use factory-correct finishes and hardware. The heads are date code correct and capped with factory chrome valve covers. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. A set of 092 coded heads are included in the sale.

The underside has been fully restored, with all components refreshed. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the gallery.

Documentation from Pontiac Historical Services is included in the sale, along with restoration photos & records, a set of 092 heads and a framed display.

@MarkD – The wire hanging from the dash are to hook your phone into. The E brake works just fine ...

Thanks for the questions. The two wires are connected to the radio/cd player in which you can hook up your phone and use your music off your phone. I use the wheel chock when I am working on the car or letting it warm up as a safety measure to prevent any roll back. Yes the E-brake works just fine. Mark Dixon

@djmotorsport – I see the car has had half 1/4s put on it. Do you see that seam when you look in the trunk ? It has blackwall tires in some pics, white letter in others , what tires are on it now The white lettered ? Thanks, DJ ...

Thanks for the message. The photos were of various ages of the car. The current tires are the white letter tires. Also new quarter panels were either repaired or replaced by the body shop. Mark Dixon
