This 1966 Dodge Charger Hemi is one of 468 built for the year and reportedly one of less than ten remaining in this color combination with this transmission. Finished in factory red over black, this fastback is listed in the Hemi Registry and is powered by 426ci V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller purchased the car from the prior owner's estate, where it had been since 1985. A recent $25k mechanical overhaul consisted of rebuilding the dual four-barrel carburetors, full brake job, new fuel system from the tank up, clutch repair, and much more. This Hemi is offered with recent service records and a clear Ohio title in the seller's name.
The Charger was designed by Carl "CAM" Cameron and introduced a fastback roofline, pot-metal "electric shaver" grille with fully rotating headlights, and a full-width six-lamp taillight with chromed "CHARGER" lettering. This Hemi is finished in factory red (PP1BB) with chrome bumpers and trim.
14" wheels are wrapped in 215/75 rubber. Additional photos showing the condition of the exterior are provided in the gallery.
Interior features include a simulated wood-grain steering wheel, four bucket seats in factory black vinyl (P4x) with matching door panels, and a full-length console. A folding rear center armrest and trunk divider allow for increased cargo room.
Electroluminescence lights the four chrome-ringed circular dash pods, needles, radio, gear selection indicator, clock, and other controls. Housed within the dash are a 6k rpm tachometer, 150 mph speedometer, and alternator, fuel, and temperature gauges.
A 426ci "Street" Hemi provides power with dual four-barrel carburetors, and it is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The block is not original to the car but is period correct and date stamped October 10, 1966, while the transmission was sourced from another Charger. Work performed in the past month includes a carburetor rebuild, machining of the flywheel, and installation of a new battery, plugs, wires, ignition coil, gaskets, cam lifters and bolts, timing set, harmonic damper, and fuel tank, sending unit, pump, lines, and hoses. In addition, the shifter was repaired, and the oil and filter were changed.
The brakes were overhauled as well, with a new master cylinder and all new calipers, rotors, pads, and hoses. Service records also show that new wheel cylinders were added, and clutch and driveshaft repairs were made.
An original owner's manual and recent service records will go with the car.
