This 1949 Ford "Ute" Coupe was professionally restored under prior ownership and features refinished brightwork, replacement bed planks, a Vintage Air HVAC system, a modern stereo, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. The Ute was a creation of Ford's Australian branch that predated the Ranchero and El Camino, but was never imported to the U.S. This example is powered by a General Motors 350ci V8 paired with an automatic transmission and finished in Candy Cinnamon over a cream vinyl interior. The seller purchased the vehicle on ClassicCars.com approximately one year ago and is selling because it is not being driven. The Ute is now offered with documentation and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The body was professionally resprayed in Candy Cinnamon and the trim was refinished under prior ownership. Exterior features chrome bumpers, a “bullet nose” front grille, a hood ornament, and dual exhaust outlets. The wood planks and stainless-steel hardware in the bed were refinished previously as well. The seller reports the existence of some small stone chips in the hood but notes that the body is free of rust.
Body-colored 15” steel wheels with chrome trim rings and Ford-branded hubcaps are wrapped in 215/70 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. A full-size spare is located in the bed. The truck has been configured on a later-model General Motors subframe and is equipped with power steering.
The vehicle was converted to left-hand-drive under prior ownership and the interior was refinished in cream vinyl with matching door panels and brown carpet. Amenities include a replacement body-colored dash, a Vintage Air HVAC system, and a modern head unit with a CD changer mounted behind the seats.
Instrumentation is framed by a two-spoke steering wheel and consists of a 100-mph speedometer, inset gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage, and an additional VDO gauge for coolant temperature mounted near the steering column. The 5-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 4k miles, which represents the mileage since the restoration. True mileage is not known.
The General Motors 350ci V8 was installed under prior ownership and is equipped with Cadillac valve covers, a Cadillac air cleaner, an Edelbrock carburetor, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and a General Motors 10-bolt rear end.
The sale includes records from the previous owner.
