Vehicle Story

This 1971 Chevrolet C10 shortbed was sold new by Dailey Chevrolet in San Leandro, California on December 17th, 1970, and has remained with its original owner for the past 50 years. Although the odometer reads 83,285 miles, this figure is expressed as 183,285 and is verified by included pieces of documentation which are accompanied by original paperwork such as the bill of sale, build sheet, owner's manuals, warranty booklets, and a Protect-O-Plate in the original owner's name. Treated to a sympathetic refurbishment at 174,280 miles, this C10 now sports a 383ci stroker paired with an NP883 four-speed manual, fresh paint, a reupholstered interior and much more in the way of upgrades. It is offered with a clean California title in the original owner's name.

Finished in Chevrolet's Dark Olive (506) paint from the factory, the truck was resprayed in the original color as part of its refresh at 174,280 miles. The color-matched Snug Top covering the bed was reportedly added shortly after the truck was originally purchased. The bed and doors were removed and repainted as part of the refresh, and the bed is protected by a carpet liner. Badges advertising the 350ci engine are situated below the front indicators while Custom 10 badges appear further back, and a disc brake decal is affixed to the tailgate. The egg crate grille wears a Blue Chevrolet bowtie while six-digit blue and yellow California plates are mounted on new front and rear chrome bumpers.

Wheels are an aftermarket set of 15" by 7" aluminum items with 20-year-old Goodyear tires mounted on them that are due for replacement.

The interior is said to have been retrimmed using original equipment-style olive vinyl and a black rubber floor liner, and the seating surfaces and footwells appear free of major wear. The dash and steering wheel adhere to the same color scheme, and the latter of which is wrapped with a contrasting leather cover. Instrumentation includes a full array of factory gauges including a 5,000-rpm tachometer, 100-mph speedometer, a large fuel gauge, and smaller dials for oil and vacuum pressure, electrical system voltage, and coolant temperature. Window seals and weatherstripping are said to have been replaced.

A cassette deck bearing the Chevrolet bowtie is installed within the instrument panel and wired to four speakers.

Originally equipped with the LS9 RPO code 350 which produced 250 horsepower at 4,500 rpm, the engine was bored over and given a stroker crankshaft for new displacement of 383ci during the refurbishment. Other highlights include forged pistons, balancing of other internal components, ported heads, hardened exhaust valve seats, a 264-degree camshaft with a heavy duty chain drive, and more. The rebuilt engine is fueled by a Quadrajet 715-cfm carburetor and is paired with an MSD ignition and an Edelbrock intake manifold. Various other wear parts were replaced and the engine was professional built by Hoffman Machine in Richmond, California. The transmission is a New Process 883 four-speed sourced from a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, which is now operated by a floor-mounted shifter and coupled with a new clutch and heavy-duty throw out bearing. Other supporting mechanical systems including the brakes, front end, and driveshaft having been rebuilt or replaced.

The exhaust consists of headers which feed into a dual system complete with a crossover H-pipe and mufflers. The rear end contains all new components and is running 3.40:1 gearing with posi-trac lubricated by Red Line synthetic oil. Blue sway bars are also present front and rear.

Accompanying documentation includes a Protect-O-Plate in the original seller's name, the original bill of sale, build sheet, and other delivery paperwork, along with various owner's manuals which remain in their original covers, among more. A drive video and owner video can be viewed below.

@DannnyInNJ – I don't see a brake booster, and a power steering pump isn't obvious. Am I correct that it has no power assist for steering nor brakes? ...

Correct, no power steering or power brakes. As discussed in the video, the owner didn't want anything reducing power delivery.
