Vehicle Story

This 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am left the Norwood, Ohio assembly plant powered by a 400ci small-journal V8 fueled by a four-barrel carburetor, but now runs a big-block Chevrolet 468ci V8 which benefits from modifications such as Comp camshafts, aluminum cylinder heads, and custom exhaust headers. With the seller for 10 years, additional modifications consist of Vintage Air climate control, a Detroit Speed four-link rear suspension setup, subframe connectors, and a tubbed rear end to accommodate 295-section tires. Finished in Sterling Silver over a black interior, this second-generation Trans Am is offered on a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.

The body of this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am largely conforms to factory specification and is finished in a respray of factory-offered Sterling Silver paint with the "Screamin' Chicken" graphic on the hood and Trans Am Decals on the front fenders and trunk lid. The hood is the standard shaker style and the rear spoiler is the factory three-piece design. A 3" dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers is fitted but hidden beneath the rear end.

Billet wheels which measure 18" in diameter adhere to the original honeycomb design and are wrapped in 245- and 295-section front and rear Nitto tires, the latter of which are cleared by a mini tub kit. Supporting modifications include a Detroit Speed four-link rear end and subframe connectors.

The front bucket seats are described as having been reupholstered in black vinyl and features include power windows, air conditioning by Vintage Air, and a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit fitted in the glove box, which is paired with a Rockford Fosgate amplifier and six-by-nine-inch speakers. A center console contains the shifter and divides the front seats, and an aftermarket steering with a wrapped rim and a Firebird center cap is installed.

The instrument panel is trimmed in turned aluminum and houses a 160-mph speedometer along with gauges for the fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. An aftermarket gauge pod is mounted below the steering column.

The Chevrolet big-block 468ci V8 is said to have covered 2,000 miles since being built and is described as running 11:1 compression along with performance modifications such as electronic fuel injection, a Comp 290/298 duration flat tappet camshaft, aluminum cylinder heads with stainless steel valves, and custom exhaust headers. The engine is estimated to produce approximately 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to the 3.73:1 rear end through a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed. The seller notes an oil service as having been performed in February of 2021.
