This 1996 BMW M3 two-door coupe comes from 16-year ownership and benefits from enhancements including Hamann aluminum wheels, a sport-tuned Bilstein suspension with strut tower braces, a performance air intake system, and a UUC short-shift kit. Power is derived from an S52 3.2-liter inline-six paired with a 5-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. Finished in black over a black leather interior, this E36 M3 is now offered with a CARFAX report with service records and with a clear Indiana title in the seller’s name.
First launched in model year 1992, the second-generation E36 3-Series received a facelift with slightly revised front and rear fascias beginning in 1995. This M3 from the subsequent year is painted black and has been customized with a carbon fiber front splitter, headlight eyebrows, color-matched kidney grilles, and a carbon fiber rear wing. Lighting has been upgraded under the seller’s 16-year ownership with European glass headlights with angel eyes, and the car retains factory fog lamps in the lower front air dam. The seller notes that there was prior rear-end collision damage that was repaired.
A set of silver-finished Hamann aluminum wheels have been added, and the suspension has been upgraded with UUC sway bars, Active Autowerke strut tower braces, and Bilstein shocks with reinforced mounts.
The interior offers a 2+2 seating configuration with power-adjustable black leather buckets up front with color-matched materials for the door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. Factory power equipment is comprised of cruise control, windows, door locks, and a sunroof along with automatic digital climate control. The seller has customized the cabin with an Alpina steering wheel, a modern Kenwood head unit with a color display, an alarm, and a UUC short-shift kit.
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an instantaneous MPG gauge, and readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature, although the coolant temperature gauge does not work per the seller. The digital odometer reads 103k miles, which is a reported to be a true reading.
The 3.2-liter S52 inline-six was factory rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, and this M3 has been modified with a cold air intake system. An oil change was performed two years ago although mileage added during that time has been minimal per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes service records.
