Reserve Removed: 1965 Plymouth Valiant

This 1965 Plymouth Valiant V100 two-door sedan comes from nearly 40-year family ownership in southern California and features a performance-tuned 340ci V8 paired with a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Upgrades include Mopar Performance valve covers, a Holley double-pumper carburetor, a tubbed rear end, and multiple suspension components from Firm Feel, Inc. Finished in a Black Metallic vinyl wrap over a black cloth interior, this second-generation Valiant is now offered with a clear Montana title in the seller’s name.

The Valiant had a model run that began in 1960 as a compact car entry riding on a unibody platform. In 1963, it received a completely redesigned exterior with a revised grille, new body lines, and a flatter roofline. This example from that generation is said to feature a rust-free body with red paint that has been vinyl-wrapped in Black Metallic. The exterior brightwork including the bumpers, grille, and trim have been powder-coat color-matched to the silver finish of the wheels. A custom fiberglass hood channels air into the engine bay, and exterior lighting systems have been upgraded to LED.  

Five-spoke 18 inch aluminum wheels with polished lips are mounted to staggered-width tires, as the tubbed rear end features narrow axles and can accommodate tire sizes up to 12” in width. The suspension has been upgraded with QA1 upper control arms, PST adjustable tie rods, and multiple components from Firm Feel Inc., including a power steering box, torsion bars, and lowering springs. KYB shocks have been added as well, along with aluminum steering rods. Stopping power comes from disc brakes.

The interior is fitted with replacement late-model cloth bucket seats and matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. The cabin color scheme is accented by red portion of the dash, a red and black two-tone Grant steering wheel, and bright finishes for the dash face and the center console. Amenities include a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo, a B&M MegaShifter, and a fuel cell and battery box which have been relocated to the rear.

Aftermarket AutoMeter gauges have been installed including a 160-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and additional gauges mounted beneath the dash for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 442 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The high-performance 340ci V8 is topped by a Mopar Performance-branded air cleaner and upgraded with a Mini Starter, a Holley double-pumper carburetor, and more. The seller states that the last service was about 1k miles ago, and the oil will be changed before the vehicle is delivered to the next owner. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 3-speed TorqueFlite A-904 automatic transmission and a 3.23 positraction rear end.
