Vehicle Story

This 1980 Chevrolet K10 Scottsdale 4x4 is a longbed pickup has been customized inside, outside, and under the hood within the last year of the seller’s two-year ownership. The newly-installed 5.3-liter Vortec V8 is paired with a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission and a 2-speed transfer case with locking front hubs. Upgrades continue with the suspension, having been lifted 4” to accommodate polished aluminum 16” wheels and BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, and the interior which received a modern audio system and custom center console. Finished in repainted two-tone orange and white over a charcoal cloth interior, this third-generation C/K-Series pickup is now offered with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

First launching in 1973, General Motors’ new generation of light and medium-duty trucks adopted a rectangular front fascia and became known as square-body pickups. Design language was characterized by a curved windshield, a wrap-around shoulder line, and updates to drivetrain configurations. The 1980 model year brought an all-new grille design trim-specific exterior treatment. This K10 Scottsdale from that year represents a regular-cab fleetside, longbed body style and was subject to a frame-off restoration in 2020 under the seller’s ownership. Replacement body panels from LMC Truck were sourced wherever needed to ensure optimal fit, finish, and straightness, and a fresh repaint in two-tone orange and white was applied over a rust-free body. Add-ons include a color-matched windshield visor, bright-finished bumpers, trim, and sideview mirrors, and DeeZee diamond-plate side steps. A sliding rear window looks out onto the bedliner-lined cargo area and a Weather Guard diamond-plate toolbox. The front fenders have been badged to denote the late-model 5.3-liter Vortec powertrain.

Polished aluminum 16” wheels are mounted to newer 315/75-series BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A raised-white-letter tires, and the suspension has a 4” lift.

The interior displays a charcoal cloth bench seat with vinyl sides, black vinyl door panels, black carpeting, and a two-tone dash with an orange lower portion and a black pad. An aluminum panel above the glove compartment has Cheyenne Super badging, and amenities include a custom carpeted center console with dual cup holders, a heater, and a newer double-DIN touch-screen audio system.  The photo gallery shows specific wear areas including some cracking on the vinyl side of the seat.

Instrumentation from Dakota Digital has been installed in the dash, surrounded by a brushed aluminum bezel. Gauges are provided for the 160-mph speedometer, 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The replacement odometer reads 1,388 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The newly-replaced 5.3-liter Vortec V8 was sourced from Jegs Performance Parts, and the install in 2020 included a new torque converter and a performance air intake. Power is fed to all four wheels via a column-shifted 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission and a floor-shifted 2-speed transfer case.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel, illustrating the undercoating applied as part of the restoration.
