Vehicle Story

This 1991 Acura NSX is a largely-original, accident-free sports coupe that has driven 94,000 miles since new and is one of 34 examples of its color and drivetrain configuration that were produced for the model year. Power for this aluminum-bodied NA1-chassis car comes from a mid-mounted, VTEC-equipped DOHC 3.0-liter V6 coupled with a 4-speed automatic transaxle and a limited-slip differential. As a first-model-year NSX, this example was manufactured in Tochigi, Japan in February 1991 and initially sold in St. Louis, Missouri, residing in that area for its first ten years until being relocated to the western region where it has remained since. While retaining largely stock configuration, this NSX is upgraded with a performance exhaust system and five-spoke aluminum Momo GTR alloy wheels. Finished in Sebring Silver Metallic with a black roof over a black leather interior, this first-year NSX is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

With design led by Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara, the NSX appearance took inspiration from an F-16 fighter jet and debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show in coupe form. Later versions were made available with a removal Targa top and underwent slight changes to cosmetics and engineering. This NSX from the initial model year bears its original all-aluminum body that is coated in Sebring Silver Metallic (NH-552M) with a contrasting black roof. According to production numbers assembled on the NSX Prime wiki, this is one of 34 cars produced in Sebring Silver over black with an automatic transmission for the year. The body features pop-up headlights, side air intakes, an integrated spoiler with an LED third brake lamp, and dual chrome exhaust outlets as part of the upgraded exhaust system.

Momo GTR aluminum five-spoke wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich G-Force tires with good tread remaining. NSX handling is optimized thanks to a lightweight all-aluminum monocoque chassis with front and rear double-wishbone suspension along with forged control arms. Stopping power comes from ventilated four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors, and steering is power-assisted.

The interior is fitted with twin black leather power-adjustable bucket seats with heavily-bolstered sides, accompanied by a center console, gathered-leather door panels, a padded dash, and carpeting. Amenities include red-accented carpeted floor mats, a factory Bose AM/FM/cassette stereo, digital automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, and power door locks. Aluminum placards on each door sill step plate designate this car as production number 1905 for the model year.

Instrumentation is conveyed by a 180-mph speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, voltage and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 94,000 miles, which is a true reading consistent with the CARFAX report.

The mid-mounted C30A 3.0-liter DOHC V6 is unmodified and original, showcasing Honda’s first application of Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC). When coupled with an automatic transaxle, the powerplant was factory rated at 252 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. Service history on the CARFAX report illustrates dealer maintenance at Cerritos Acura in the early 2000s, and a 2010 record at Findlay Acura in Henderson, Nevada shows replacement of the transmission fluid, window regulators, oil pan gasket, and antenna. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transaxle and a limited-slip differential.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The CARFAX report shows a clean history with no accidents or damage, with the most recent record on the report dated April 2011 with a new owner in Phoenix, Arizona.
