Vehicle Story

This award-winning 1937 Ford three-window coupe is a custom-built street rod with a Minotti fiberglass body, a chopped top, airbrushed flames, shaved door handles, and staggered-diameter chrome wheels. Power comes from a 355ci Chevrolet V8 that is cooled by an electric fan and paired with a 3-speed Turbo 350 automatic transmission with a shift kit. The seller has garage-kept the vehicle for seven years and has shown it at various events, where it has received several trophies. Finished in Yellow Pearl with orange flames over a two-tone beige vinyl and cloth interior, this 1937 coupe is now offered with trophies, two key fobs, a Charleston-area feature magazine cover photo, other documentation, and a clear West Virginia title in the seller’s name.

This custom hot rod was built in California under prior ownership and consists of a Minotti fiberglass body over a boxed frame. The exterior was painted Yellow Pearl with accenting airbrushed flames on the front clip. Trophies and awards received over the seller’s seven years of ownership consist of many Best of Show, Best Street Rod, Best Ford, and other accolades. Features include a chopped top, beveled windshield, body-color grille, shaved door handles, and a third brake lamp. The seller notes that there is a small rock chip at the front and a crack in the paint near the license plate at the rear.

Chrome-finished billet aluminum wheels are staggered in diameter and measure 18 inches up front and 20 inches at the rear. The front wheels are wrapped in Z-rated Nitto 215/35 tires; the back wheels have 245/35 matching tires. Steering is provided by a rack and pinion system. The suspension uses adjustable coilovers. Stopping power comes from 4 wheel disc brakes.

The interior is adorned with beige vinyl and cloth bucket seats with embossed flames on the door panels, matched to the materials on the dash and center console. Amenities include Vintage Air HVAC, power windows, a radio, a tilt steering wheel, retractable seat belts, a power trunk lid, power-opening doors, and a billet steering wheel. The sound system is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit connected to an MTX Audio Thunder 6304 amplifier and a power antenna. The battery is located in the fully finished trunk. The external battery jumper posts and a master disconnect switch are mounted outside on the frame.

Instrumentation includes a speedometer along with gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The replacement aftermarket odometer reads 3,710 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 355ci Chevrolet V8 sits in a detailed engine compartment with accenting flames, dress-up valve covers, a billet air cleaner, and wire looms. Upgrades include an electric cooling fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission with a shift kit and an 8-inch Ford rear end. The video below shows the car starting up and idling.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes two key fobs, a Charleston-area real estate magazine featuring this car on the cover, other documentation, and several trophies received since the completion of the build.
