OVERVIEW
This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner was restored in 2020 and has a power-retractable hardtop, power brakes, power steering, and an AM radio. It is powered by a 292ci Thunderbird V8 paired with a Cruise-O-Matic two-speed automatic transmission and has remained in the same family for more than 40 years. Refinished in two-tone Inca Gold and white over a black and white vinyl interior, this second-generation Fairlane is now offered with a technical manual, a used spare windshield, the vehicle registration Auto Certificate Holder, and Manitoba, Canada registration in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Skyliner comes from the first year that the Fairlane was offered with a retractable hardtop. It has been family-owned for four decades and was restored in 2020 in two-tone Inca Gold (Y) and white. The power-retractable top works via a push-button control and fits in the trunk. The bumpers, bumper guards, grille, driver-side mirror housing, and emblems were either re-chromed or replaced. The seller has provided a video with a walkaround and a demonstration of the retractable top in action below.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Steel 14-inch wheels with hubcaps are wrapped in newer whitewall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior was reupholstered with dual two-tone white and black vinyl bench seats, matched to the headliner, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include an AM radio, embroidered floor mats, the original door sill trim plates, and a vinyl-trimmed trunk. The seller notes that the clock is inoperative. The vehicle registration Auto Certificate Holder on the steering column can be seen in the gallery to the right.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. Auxiliary gauges are mounted below the dash. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 20K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 292ci Thunderbird V8 has a two-barrel carburetor and reportedly runs well. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Cruise-O-Matic two-speed automatic transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping power comes from power-assisted drum brakes; steering is power-assisted. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes a technical manual, a used spare windshield, and the vehicle registration Auto Certificate Holder.

@Boss69 – Nice outside and in but a bit concerned about the condition of the engine and transmission. Can you provide compression test results. Any leaks noticeable. Is this the original engine. ? Service records ?? Thanks. ...
Transmission & engine work as they should. I do know the transmission had some work done to it about 10 years ago, but I don’t know what was done exactly. No we haven’t done a compression test. There is a small oil leak at the rear of the engine. As far as it being the original engine, I don’t believe so. It is however the correct engine for the car. The car belonged to my father for 40+ years and he did any necessary maintenance required. As he is no longer with us, I unfortunately do not have any service records The car has seen approximately 500 miles a year for over the past 40 years. Thank you for your interest!
