OVERVIEW
This 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible has undergone partial restoration and comes with a newer cloth retractable top, replacement exterior lighting, newer ignition system components, and Coker whitewall tires. It is powered by a 1,600cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Finished in a two-tone turquoise and white wrap with a tan retractable top over a turquoise and white marine-grade vinyl interior, this Super Beetle is now offered with service records, additional uninstalled parts, and a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Super Beetle convertible has been 98 percent restored, according to the seller. The body is wrapped in two-tone turquoise and white vinyl; the passenger compartment is covered with a newer tan cloth retractable top. Features include newer bumpers, chrome brightwork, newer exterior lighting, side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller states that some exterior door trim pieces and the replacement exterior door handles need to be installed.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Body-color 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in newer Coker Classic whitewall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is fitted with two-tone turquoise and white marine-grade vinyl bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, matching door panels, and newer marine-grade brown carpeting. Features include a wire basket, a newer steering wheel, newer lap belts, map pockets, and a modern radio. The seller states that there is some corrosion present underneath the back seat.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer and an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 22,965 miles, but the true mileage is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rear-mounted, air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four reportedly runs well and was serviced in May 2022 by a Volkswagen specialist. At that time, it received about $1,000 in work on the valve cover gasket, speedometer cable, wiring, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, ignition condenser, battery, and more. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed manual transaxle.

This is a lovely perfect for just about anyone ride. Not exactly "original" but putting the best of the genre to use. It seems to be attracting reasonable offers for a car, that offers so much fun and ease of ownership to so many. For those who didn't live with them - or have only spirited memories - they have some quirks. While this is a convertible, so less proper for cold weather (where both an easy push and a good snow capability (weight over drive wheels) are good...the top is "awkward" and does not take up too much rear seat. And the heat virtually none existent!
