Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is reportedly a two-owner vehicle that has been with the seller since 2017. It comes equipped with cruise control; air conditioning; power steering; power windows, locks, and mirrors; power front seats; and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio. The previously overhauled 5.9-liter V8 sends power to the road through a three-speed automatic transmission and Selec-Trac four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case. Finished in Deep Night Blue with a matching vinyl roof and vinyl wood-look trim over a Honey leather and cloth interior, this Grand Wagoneer is available now and comes with the removed rear armrests, the window sticker, service records, owner's booklets, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear Maryland title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

The Deep Night Blue body comes with vinyl woodgrain-look accent panels and a body-color vinyl roof. Features include fog lights, chrome bumpers with guards and impact strips, bright trim, dual side mirrors, a fold-down tailgate with a power rear window, and a hitch receiver. The roof is equipped with a power sunroof and a roof rack. The seller reports an electrical issue with the fog lights was repaired under their ownership. As the photos in the gallery to the right show, there is rust on the edges of the doors and corrosion where the rear passenger-side door meets the back of the body. Although the CARFAX report does not show it, a 2019 collision caused damage to the same area.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

According to the seller, this Grand Wagoneer comes with its original forged aluminum 15" X 7" wheels, which come wrapped in tires with black sidewall lettering. The CARFAX report shows at least one tire was replaced in 2020.

INTERIOR - FEATURES

The cabin is furnished with Honey leather and cloth bucket front and bench rear seating as well as a coordinating dashboard, replacement headliner, door panels, and carpeting. Woodgrain trim accents the dashboard, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and door panels. Equipment includes the Extra-Quiet Insulation Package; cruise control; air conditioning; power steering; a tilt steering column; power windows, locks, and mirrors; six-way power-adjustable front seats; and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio. The cargo area has replacement load floor carpeting and contains a retractable cover. The seller reports they replaced two of the electric window track belts and that the rear armrests are not installed because the plastic that held them in place broke. The armrests and their attachment screws will be included with the vehicle.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

Vehicle information is displayed on a gear selection indicator, a 100-mph speedometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit analog odometer shows 168,168 miles; the CARFAX report shows a Mileage Inconsistency at 163,125 miles in September 2022.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 5.9-liter V8 is paired with the Heavy Duty Cooling package, a two-barrel carburetor, a three-speed automatic transmission, and the Selec-Trac four-wheel drive system with a vacuum-activated front axle disconnect feature and a two-speed transfer case. The seller states the engine was overhauled by the Butler Automotive Service Center of Rockville, Maryland in 1992. The engine, fan assembly, and transfer case were reportedly repaired under current ownership. According to the window sticker, the transmission is equipped with an auxiliary cooler. As the CARFAX report indicates, drive belts and transmission cooler lines were replaced in June 2019; the coolant was flushed and changed in September 2022. The seller has posted a video of the engine running below.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Brake components and tie rod ends were replaced in 2019; additional tie rod ends were replaced in 2020.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The removed rear armrests and their attachment screws, the window sticker, service records, and owner's booklets will be included with the vehicle.

So, I took the Schwagoneer out today and the elelctrical issue that I thought I had fixed is back. Floor lamps not on, one fog lamp won't light and the battery is being drained. Full disclosure, I will take it in to get it fixed, but may need to find a more....capable garage. It seems there are fewer people around who understand these older cars. If the computer doesn't tell them what is wrong, they have no idea how to diagnose the problem.

@nic.bre – It was a minor collision, when I was rear ended in traffic. The damage to the Wagoneer was minimal and the estimate to repair the bumper (realign it) was below my deductible. I had not had the repair done, but that is why the rear bumper is slightly bent. It is likely not on Carfax because I did not file a claim with my insurance company. No idea what the other guy did as we exchanged information. He popped his front plastic grill piece back into place and picked up the black plastic box that fell out from his car. I attached a photo of the bumper from the day of the crash. ...

Thanks! I love the GWs, had one a few years ago, it was pristine, and probably too nice, cause it was stolen. Yours looks like it could be top notch with very little work, but I'm afraid it is beyond my reach. Good luck!

Please describe the collision mentioned in the seller's notes, the extent of the damage, how it was repaired, and by whom. Are there any photos? How is it that it does not appear on the CARFAX? Thank you!
