OVERVIEW
This 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was with the same family until 2020 when it was purchased by the seller, who put it through a body-off restoration completed in 2022. It is powered by a rebuilt 2F 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Features include new air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power brakes, a new electrical system, restored gauges, and four-wheel drive. Refinished in red with a white roof over a newer charcoal vinyl interior, this Land Cruiser is available now and comes with documentation, an invoice, and Vermont registration.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
During the frame-off restoration, the body floors and doors were replaced and the body was sprayed inside and out in red. Repairs in the removable hard roof were repaired with fiberglass and the entire piece was refinished in white. The seller adds that even the nuts and bolts were replaced as part of the restoration process. Features include black bumpers, a white grille with a Toyota emblem, dual black side mirror housings, and a folding windshield.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A new set of 15-inch aluminum wheels with manual locking front hubs is wrapped in new 31x10.50R15LT Ecovision radial tires that were purchased in 2022. The rear-mounted spare wheel is equipped with a Bridgestone Dueler H/T tire.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The newer front bucket seats and the rear side seats are upholstered in newer charcoal vinyl and complemented with newer matching vinyl door panels. Features include a new electrical system, new floors, power windows, front and rear vinyl floor mats, a new air conditioning system, power steering, power brakes, and a Kenwood AM/FM digital stereo. A video of the interior features can be seen below.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
The restored instrumentation is located in a silver panel ahead of the driver and includes a 160-KM/H speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. With 10,000 kilometers (6,214 miles) logged since the engine and transmission rebuild, the odometer reads 50,000 kilometers (31,068 miles), but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt 2F 4.2-liter inline-six engine and backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The engine received a new crankshaft and pistons, cylinder head repair, and carburetor repair during the restoration process. According to the seller, a specialty Toyota shop recently replaced the gears in the transmission. Underhood features include a full repair, restoration, and refinishing of the engine and all engine components and accessories including the red underhood sheet metal.
UNDERCARRIAGE
As part of the frame-off restoration, all chassis and suspension components were sandblasted and refinished in black. Features include a part-time four-wheel drive solid front axle and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by power drums. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This Land Cruiser was previously sold on AutoHunter, but it is being relisted after the buyer backed out of the transaction through no fault of the seller. According to the seller, Vermont does not issue titles for cars that are more than 15 years old, but the included vehicle history documentation and invoice will allow the buyer to register the vehicle in any state. The vehicle was brought from Montpelier, Vermont to Miami, Florida to be serviced, maintained, and stored until it is sold. Start-up and driving videos can be seen below.
@LaSorsa – what country was this restored in? ...
The car belonged to one family only until our company acquired it in 2020. It comes from Colombia, there aesthetic and functional restoration parts were made, and we We have just restored all the mechanical, electrical, and braking parts, including some accessories. We are experts in these classic 4x4s, we have restored more than 60. Let me know if you have additional questions.

@jeff7759 – I just played it again, at 44 seconds you hear a dat dat dat. And my buddy is here, he also hears it. Maybe you had it in 4 low, and when you turned on pavement. It made a binding noise. I don’t think that is it, but it’s there. I promise I don’t wear a hearing aid. Haha ...
I'm sorry if maybe I didn't give the right answer. Definitely there is a noise, but it is the noise that the car makes when it hits a bump in the road. As you can see, at the time of the noise, gear changes, turns and no other changes are made. Please let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to assist you.

@jeff7759 – The bottom video, the one right above this comment box. When you play it, about 45 seconds into it. Your making a left hand turn and you hear a binding noise. And you hear it again, but not as loud after that. Can you tell us what that sound is, it could be something simple or not. But a answer would be appreciated. It looks great. Thanks, JT ...
Thanks for your question. Honestly, I don't find any serious noise. And if perhaps the noise exists, I can guarantee that the car has an excellent ride and flow, there are no obstacles in the engine, transmission or anything. Thank you!
