OVERVIEW
This Ford Taurus-style 2001 NASCAR Cup Car was driven in competition by Mike Wallace and Jeremy Mayfield. Power comes with an 800-horsepower V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Performance equipment includes a full roll cage, Goodyear race tires, auxiliary gauges, and a Simpson safety harness. Finished in red, white, and blue with sponsor livery, this NASCAR race car is now offered by a Michigan dealership with a bill of sale.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The red, white, and blue body is modeled after a fourth-generation Ford Taurus and wears the number 12 and the logos for sponsors including Mobil 1, Goodyear, and Sony. It was reportedly driven by both Jeremy Mayfield and Mike Wallace during the 2001 race season and later presented by Roger Penske to Mike Wallace at the conclusion of the year.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The black wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle race tires with yellow lettering.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit is fitted with a tubular padded roll cage along with accommodations for the race driver. The interior reportedly remains as it was outfitted during track time, including the black bucket seat, Simpson safety harness, aluminum floor panels, window netting, and dash-mounted switches for the starter, ignition, and other vehicle controls.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes an AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite 10K-rpm tachometer and gauges for the coolant temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and voltage.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The NASCAR Tim Petty-rebuilt V8 is said to produce 800 horsepower and uses dry sump lubrication that requires oil priming prior to ignition. Additional equipment includes an aluminum radiator and MSD ignition components. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes tags with handwritten notes regarding service intervals and event participation, one of which states that this car qualified for Daytona in 2001. The selling dealer has provided a video with a start-up, an exterior walkaround, and a look at the engine bay. As a dedicated race vehicle, this Cup Car is offered with a bill of sale only.
