Vehicle Story

 OVERVIEW

This 1971 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 has received cosmetic updates over the years, including a repaint 25 years ago. It is powered by a 455ci V8 backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering and front disc brakes, the reportedly original W25 fiberglass hood, a rear wing, color-keyed sport mirror caps, a sport steering wheel, bucket seats, an 8-track cassette player, an AM radio, and a center console with a Hurst dual-gate shifter. Finished in Bittersweet over an Ivory Pearl vinyl interior, this Oldsmobile comes with a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The rust-free exterior was refinished in Bittersweet about 25 years ago and has no visible blemishes or dings, according to the seller. They report that they have driven this car to shows all over California and earned top awards in various events. Features include chrome bumpers, the reportedly original fiberglass W25 hood, white accent stripes, 442 and W30 emblems, color-keyed sport mirror caps, wheel opening moldings, and a rear wing.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 14-inch Oldsmobile Super Stock III wheels is wrapped in BFGoodrich radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The front bucket seats, rear seat, and interior trim are upholstered in Ivory Pearl vinyl. Features include power steering and brakes, manual windows, a copper center console with a Hurst dual-gate shifter, woodgrain accents, an 8-track cassette player, an AM radio, and a four-spoke sport steering wheel with a black rim. The carpeting, rear package tray, and headliner have been replaced. The seller states that the AM/FM/CD player hidden in the glovebox is currently disconnected due to a power draw during storage. In addition, a few original knobs are slightly discolored.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

The instrument panel includes a 120-mph speedometer and the Rally Pac, which features an 8,000-rpm tachometer with a clock, plus fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature gauges. With 1,200 miles added during current ownership, the odometer reads 79,900 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

According to the seller, the 455cid V8 is equipped with a code-correct high-nickel-content 1971 455cid W30 factory replacement block that features a combination of correct and rebuilt components. The engine is paired with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission that is not original to this car.

UNDERCARRIAGE

According to the seller, approximately 12 years ago, the powertrain, engine compartment, front suspension, and chassis were rebuilt and cosmetically refurbished, but the original inner wheel liners were retained. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear through chrome trumpet tips. The seller states that the original TM-code 10-bolt rear end with Positraction and 3.42:1 gears was recently serviced and has never been removed from the chassis.

@Dennispenley – Did this car come from north carolina? ...

Your the 2 nd to ask or place this or a 442 just like itin NC. Did some inquiring with last owner and also has no knowledge of that connection. I have attempted to research back on history and or someone with pics or docs such as broadcast sheet or copy of window sticker to match this 442. Who knows, rare but made more than one. Nice car and runs and drives like she looks! Her name is Penny!

@SaraL442 – When modern stereo installed in glovebox it created a draw on battery as all clock and memory modern electronics do. Don’t like tenders when parked in storage and not driven everyday. So it’s disabled so she fires right up after sitting weeks on end, sometimes months. Thinking of hooking up all the original equipment and getting my glove box back! ...

So all radio and stereo equipment non- functional at time of sale but all in place. Buyer to decide !

@bobwop – What original documents do you have that supports this car to be a real W30? ...

No docs with car, ad states selling a 442! Never in hands of an actual collector. All 442 auth. That have looked car over all agree on what I believe, but this makes it not only affordable, it’s allure is charming! So consider it a w-30 tribute., with original 1971 w-30 parts. Good luck with your muscle car hunt.
