OVERVIEW
This 1968 Ford Mustang coupe underwent an inside-and-out restoration in 2004 and is powered by a rebuilt 289ci V8 mated to a C4 three-speed automatic transmission. Under previous ownership, updates included the refurbishment of the suspension, the replacement of body panels, a repaint in the original color, and more. Finished in Lime Gold with black striping over an Ivy Gold vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with service records, a Mustang fact book, an owner’s manual, restoration documentation, service records, parts receipts, a 2004 appraisal, spare parts and wheels as described below, and a clear North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The body was repainted in the original factory color of Lime Gold and given replacement front fenders, quarter panels, and a lower back panel under previous ownership. Exterior features include black accent striping, chrome brightwork, Mustang script badges, rocker moldings, and a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Satin black 15-inch American Racing VN501 wheels are wrapped in 225/60 front and 245/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cabin is fitted with Ivy Gold vinyl upholstery for the front buckets and rear bench seat, matched to the door panels and lower dash. Features include vent windows, manual window cranks, an AM/FM cassette player, and embroidered floor mats. The trunk is lined with a patterned vinyl mat and contains a matching bag and a spare tire cover.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
The chrome-trimmed instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an aftermarket 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for other vehicle vitals. The five-digit mechanical odometer has rolled over and indicates 151,177 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 289ci V8 was rebuilt in 2006 and has been upgraded with an Edelbrock Performer intake, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, a Cobra-style air cleaner, an Optima Yellowtop battery, and an electric fan. Maintenance in recent years includes an oil change, a tune-up, the replacement of the spark plugs and wires, a differential service, and a transmission fluid change. Power is fed to the back wheels via a floor-shifted C4 three-speed automatic transmission and an eight-inch rear end with a 2.79:1 differential.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The suspension has been lowered by 1.5 inches. Stopping power comes from manual drum brakes at all four corners. The seller notes that chassis work in 2004 included the installation of a new fuel tank and new front torque boxes, subframe members, side sills, trunk side floors, shock absorbers, springs, and chassis wiring.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes a folder with service records and parts receipts dating back to 2006, an appraisal from 2004, restoration photos, an owner’s manual, a 1968 Mustang fact book, two uninstalled steering wheels, an uninstalled round air cleaner, and an uninstalled older set of chrome Magnum-style wheels with BFGoodrich tires.
