Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1956 Ford Thunderbird convertible received a fresh two-tone exterior finish in 2021 and underwent recent maintenance including a tune-up along with the replacement of the fuel tank, engine oil, starter, and battery under current ownership. It is powered by a 312ci Y-block V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with a continental kit and a set of wire wheels with newer whitewall tires. Finished in turquoise and equipped with a removable white hardtop over a turquoise and white vinyl interior, this first-generation Thunderbird is now offered with removed fender skirts and chrome trim pieces, a novelty parking sign, and a clear Washington title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The turquoise finish was applied two years ago to the reportedly rust-free exterior. The cockpit is capped off with a white removable hardtop with portholes. Exterior features include chrome brightwork, a hood scoop, front fender accents, a continental kit, and a dual exhaust system.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Wire wheels with American Racing-branded center caps are wrapped in newer whitewall tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The two-seat interior is fitted with a vinyl two-tone turquoise and white bench seat that is reportedly free of any rips or tears, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. The dash face has engine-turned aluminum trim. Amenities include carpeted floor mats, a newer push-button radio, a heater, and a patterned vinyl trunk mat.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation consists of a sweeping 150-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, a fuel gauge, and a coolant temperature gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 21,329 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 312ci Y-block V8 received a tune-up, an oil change, a replacement starter, a new battery, and an inspection in early 2023. The fuel tank and associated hoses have also been replaced under the seller’s ownership. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted three-speed automatic transmission.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Additional photos showing the underside of the vehicle are available in the gallery to the right.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The sale includes removed fender skirts and chrome trim pieces, and a novelty parking sign. Below, the seller has posted an exterior and interior walk-around video with the engine at idle, along with a second video showing the engine bay.

I would like to see at least three or four shots of the undercarriage I see one so I’m assuming it must be pretty rough please forward as soon as possible Al

No on the original bumper and as indicated a (1) is missing in front of the mileage indicator

Do you still have the original rear bumper? The fit of the trunk lid, hood and maybe the doors too is not good. Respectfully, the general condition of the car screams 121,000 miles.

@LPage – No, just the one. No soft top, Hard top. I asked the previous owner that question, he indicated when he had the engine over hauled , the mechanic told him it was a 312. I just know it has lots of power and no oil leaks on my garage floor. Unknown of the Carb. ...

But no data plate? That would solve some of the questions. Thank you again

@Gforni – Do you have a photo of the data plate or does this not have one? Does it have a soft top or the hardware? Have you verified that this has a 312? What carb is on this? looks to be a 2bbl? Thank you in advance ...

I have pics of the skirts, (unfinished paint), skirts from the previous owner, plus new chrome fittings around the skirts. Radio/speaker is new (AM). Small Paint blister above left side of emblem.

@tbirdguy – You state that the car has 21,000 actual miles can we assume there is a 1 in front of that or do you have any documentation to back this up? Why was the fan shroud removed and does this affect the cooling ability of the engine? ...

Yes, I assume there is a (1) in front of that, but not showing. Fan shroud was removed by the previous owner, there is no affect on over heating since I've had it.
