This 1968 Volkswagen Type 2 is described by the seller as a running and driving project that is ready for restoration. It features bench seating with a rear cargo area and is powered by a replacement rear-mounted 1.5-liter air-cooled flat-four paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. Finished in blue with a white roof over a black vinyl interior, this bus has been with the seller for 29 years and is offered on a clear California title in their name.
This Volkswagen bus is painted in its original two-tone color scheme with a blue body and white roof. White bumpers are mounted front and rear, along with bright trim for the headlight surrounds, sideview mirrors, side moldings, and badging. The seller reports that the body is straight but there are some cosmetic imperfections including areas of advanced rust, which are shown in the photo gallery. The front panel and floor boards are also reported to be heavily rusted while the sliding door will require repair to function properly.
Factory 14” steel wheels have chrome VW-branded center caps that show corrosion.
The interior is said to be original and is fitted with gray vinyl seats and matching surfaces for the door panels and dash. The front seats are captain’s chairs while a bench is fitted for the second row. Storage for the spare tire is located within the cargo compartment. The seller indicates that the seats and dash are worn, and that the windshield wiper switch is inoperative. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD head unit is installed.
Gauges are viewed through a two-spoke steering wheel and include a 90-mph speedometer along with a gauge for fuel level and warning lamps for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 90k miles, but original chassis mileage is unknown.
A replacement 1.5-liter air-cooled flat-four fueled by a single carburetor was installed in 1999 per the seller. The seller also notes sound running condition and describes the engine as being free of leaks. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a 4-speed manual transaxle with a floor-mounted shifter.
