Vehicle Story

This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback harnesses power from a rebuilt 289ci V8 that features a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system, all-new wiring, and a T5 5-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch. The restoration checklist incorporated custom touches on the interior including a wood-rimmed Ididit steering wheel and a touch-screen digital display showing engine RPM, coolant temperature, and other vital vehicle information. A fresh coat of red paint was applied with white accent striping, and the interior received reupholstered black vinyl over bucket seats. This second-year Mustang is now offered with build documentation and a clear Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

This Mustang wears a fastback body style and was the subject of a restoration involving a full red repaint that was topped off by white GT-style accent striping on the upper surfaces, the rear end, and the rocker panels. Brightwork has been refinished or replaced as warranted for the front and rear bumpers, window surrounds, and other accents. A hood scoop feeds air into the engine bay up front, and a custom dual exhaust system with polished tips and trumpet ends is installed out back. Photos showing the restoration process are included in the image gallery.

Aluminum five-spoke wheels with polished lips are wrapped in Cooper Copra Radial G/T raised-white-letter tires. Handling has been augmented with the installation of a Flaming River quick-ratio steering box, a rebuilt front suspension, welded frame connectors, and a front disc brake conversion.

The interior offers 2+2 seating and offers reupholstered black vinyl bucket seating with matching door panels, dash, and carpeting topped by Mustang-logo embroidered floor mats. The Sport Deck rear seat folds flat to allow for cargo-area access. Amenities include a tilt-adjustable, adjustable chrome Ididit steering column with classic Mahogany steering wheel, and a vinyl mat in the trunk area. The original push-button radio is installed in the dash but not hooked up per the seller.

Instrumentation includes a centrally-mounted 140-mph speedometer and accompanying factory gauges for oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. In addition, a modern customizable touch-screen located beneath the radio shows data for engine RPM, coolant temperature, and air-fuel ratio. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 21k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

This Mustang is a C-code car, powered by rebuilt 289ci V8 in a matte black engine bay. Performance enhancements include a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection, Powermaster mini torque starter, and a Modern Driveline hydraulic clutch. The electrical system has been rewired with materials from American Auto Wire using modern fuses, including being pre-wired for power windows, an electric fan, fog lights, and a third brake lamp. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a T5 5-speed manual transmission, using a T5 driveshaft and yoke.

Photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.

The sale includes build documentation.
