Vehicle Story

This 1949 Packard Super Eight Victoria convertible was the subject of a comprehensive restoration and received a rebuilt carburetor, an electric fuel pump, and an auxiliary fan for the 327ci inline-eight which is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Designated as a parade/touring car, the car received a repaint in 2006 in Red Metallic and has no top and no side windows. The paint scheme carries through to portions of the interior which offers reupholstered tan leather bench seating. This Super Eight Victoria is now offered with a clear Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.

Production of the Super Eight ran from 1933 through 1951 and this model served as a luxury model for the Packard lineup. This example was the recipient of restoration around 2006 and was sprayed in Red Metallic, and the work omitted the installation of a top and the side windows. As a result, the Super Eight is described as a fair-weather car only and has been lightly driven and garaged as such. A snap-on tonneau cover is installed behind the rear seat. Brightwork consists of front and rear bumpers with guards, side moldings, handles, headlight rings, and a “Goddess of Speed” hood ornament. Other exterior features include a two-piece windshield and wheel skirts fitted to the rear quarter panels.

Color-matched 15” steel wheels with bright Packard-branded caps are mounted to wide whitewall tires that are due for replacement due to age per the seller.

The interior contains dual reupholstered light tan leather benches, with matching materials shared throughout the cabin for the door panels, carpeting, and kick panels. The dash is painted Red Metallic and features chrome accents surrounding the gauge bezel and at the center.

Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 2,800 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The single-carbureted 327ci inline-eight is said to run well per the seller and was rated at 150 horsepower when new. The motor received an electric fuel pump, new wiring, a 12-volt conversion, an auxiliary fan, an oil and filter change, new spark plugs, a new battery, and a carburetor rebuild recently. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission.
