Reserve Removed: 1967 Pontiac GTO

This 1967 Pontiac GTO two-door hardtop was treated to a mechanical and cosmetic restoration in its original color configuration, powered by a crate-sourced 461ci V8 with over $16,000 spent in drivetrain receipts alone. Power is sent to the rear tires through a Safe-T-Track differential and a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission, and full mechanical roadworthiness is ensured via the replacement of suspension components, exhaust, steering, and much more. This sports coupe was originally assembled in Pontiac’s Fremont, California facility and resided long-term on the west coast, having been owned by the seller for seven years. Finished in Silverglaze with a black vinyl top over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this first-generation GTO is now offered with service records, Pontiac Historical Services (PHS) documentation, and a clear California title.

The GTO model received some styling updates for 1967 including redesigned taillamps, modified placement for badging, and a new grille design. There were three body styles available at the time, including a sports coupe, a hardtop, and a convertible. This example is configured as a two-door hardtop and received a restoration that emphasized preservation and adherence to the car’s original configuration that was supported by accompanying documentation from Pontiac Historical Services. The exterior was refinished in Silverglaze (P) and retained a black vinyl top along with brightwork for the front and rear bumpers, moldings, and other trim.

Five-spoke 14” wheels with PMD center caps and polished trim rings are wrapped in newer BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires wearing 2018 and 2019 date codes. The suspension features a ride and handling package, and performance upgrades were carried out at the time of restoration including replacement of the steering box, control arms, front and rear sway bars, adjustable gas shocks, and brake lines.

The interior offers reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats with matching materials for the safety belts, door panels, dash, and carpeting. The seller calls attention to a small tear on the driver’s seat as well as wear on the side bolster. A custom reproduction wooden steering wheel was added, and the center of the cabin features a center console sporting a Hurst shift lever. A modern Sony stereo with replacement speakers and an amplifier has been added. A Gear Vendor overdrive/underdrive unit is mounted behind the glove compartment door. Additionally, the car came with Soft Ray tinted glass from the factory.

Instrumentation includes Autometer gauges for a speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The replacement digital odometer reads 492 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

This GTO was originally powered by a 400ci V8, which was subsequently replaced with a crate-sourced 461ci V8 that is topped by a chrome-finished Edelbrock air cleaner and carries a rating of 650 horsepower according to the seller. Mechanical work was performed within the last 5,000 miles, and expenditures for the engine and internals are said to total over $16,000 with receipts included as part of the car’s supporting documentation. Among the upgrades are an Edelbrock carburetor, Comp roller camshafts, an aluminum radiator, an electric fuel pump, MSD ignition components, and a Magnaflow exhaust system with twin mufflers and headers. The battery has been relocated to the trunk. Power is fed to the rear wheels via the car’s numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission with a Gear Vendor overdrive unit added. A Safe-T-Track rear differential with a 3.90:1 ratio ensures limited-slip.
