1964 Pontiac GTO 4-Speed

This 1964 Pontiac GTO two-door hardtop is powered by a 389ci V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shift lever. This GTO is accompanied by a build sheet and documentation from Pontiac Historical Services, having been refinished in a custom shade of Midnight Blue over a reupholstered black vinyl interior with a full center console. This first-generation GTO is now offered with the aforementioned documentation and clear Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The GTO name was first applied to a performance variant of the midsized LeMans model beginning in 1964, initiating a movement later followed by other domestic automakers in what became known as the muscle car segment. This first-year GTO two-door hardtop rides on the General Motors A-body platform and was resprayed in Midnight Blue, accented by chrome brightwork that includes a newly-replaced rear bumper. Features include quad headlights, a driver side mirror, GTO badging on the rear quarters, a full-width taillight panel, and quad exhaust outlets.

Steel 15” wheels with full hubcaps are wrapped in newer redline tires.

The interior is trimmed with reupholstered black vinyl fold-forward bucket seating and matching materials for the center console, door panels, carpeting, and embroidered floor mats. Amenities include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a push-button radio, tinted glass, and a Hurst shifter.

Instrumentation is housed within an engine-turned aluminum bezel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel gauge, and warning lights for voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 87k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 389ci V8 bears block number 78XW/461143 with a non-original Tri-Power carburetor setup installed. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed manual transmission.
