Vehicle Story

This 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T convertible is one of 519 produced and was rotisserie restored by a collector in 2010, after which the car won a 2017 America Graffiti Award. After acquiring the car in 2015, the seller spent the next four years further restoring the car while improving drivability. Both the original 440 Magnum V8 and 727 Torqueflite transmission were rebuilt to factory specifications, with the former retaining the original carburetor and manifolds. Additional work included installing an Accurate Exhaust brand OE-style exhaust and mufflers, replacement date-coded glass, custom aluminum four-core radiator, aftermarket disc brakes with slotted rotors, and more. This fifth-generation Coronet R/T is offered with receipts for the restoration and a clear Montana title in the seller's name.

The exterior is finished in Racing Green Metallic (GG1 and 661) with red stripes R/T tail stripes. The majority of the original sheet metal was retained, except for the replacement of the trunk pan extensions. The black convertible top was sourced from Legendary Auto, and new old stock parts include chrome trim, grille, headlight bezels, rear taillight assembly, side markers, fender turn indicators, and wheel well moldings.

All glass has been replaced with date-coded replacements, along with the rear window. Other modifications include the replacement of the 14" factory wheels with 17” billet Magnum 500 items, which are currently wrapped in Redline tires.

Black vinyl covers the front buckets and rear bench, and the original "Buddy Seat" is included in the sale. Instruments include a 150 mph speedometer, as seen through the wood grain steering wheel, and an AM radio. The power convertible top operates with no issues, with the motor and hydraulic lines recently replaced.

The odometer shows 42k miles, 270 of which have been added by the seller since 2015. A full-size spare is located in the trunk.

Power is provided by a rebuilt Chrysler RB-series 440ci Magnum V8 mated to a rebuilt 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, both of which are matching-numbers and honed to original specifications. Work performed under previous ownership included the heads being redone, the valves ground, the crank polished, and new pistons, rods, cams, lifters, rings, bearings, seals, and more. The original Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetor and manifolds have been refreshed, and the original 8 3/4 3.23:1 "Sure-Grip" rear differential has been rebuilt as well. The car came factory equipped with power steering, while modifications include a custom aluminum, black powder-coated 4-core radiator with matching shroud and a quad-electric fan setup. No modifications were made to the core support, and an idling temperature of 180 degrees can be maintained in 110-degree heat, per the seller. In addition, the original radiator will go with the car.

The car is equipped with power steering, and aftermarket disc brakes on slotted rotors have been added. Other installed improvements have included an Accurate Exhaust brand OE-style exhaust system and mufflers. Additional underside photos are available in the gallery.

A file of receipts will be included with the sale, along with photo documentation of the comprehensive restoration, a reproduction window sticker, and various display information.

@360burnout – Nice upgrade on the radiator! Idling at 180 in 110 temps is impressive. ...

Thanks man! I set the car up for the annual American Graffiti car cruise and it’s several hours of crawling traffic with stop & go and some years it’s triple digits. You see lots of cars overheating on the side of the road and I didn’t want to have to worry about staring @ the thermometer. The amazing craftsman @ Wizard Cooling custom built the 4-core radiator for me to fit in the OE core support. They also designed the shroud and quad SPAL brand fan setup and it’s extremely efficient. I had it all powder coated black to match OE. The original radiator was also restored and comes with the sale of the car should the next owner want to revert back to stock specs

@Fasttopless – Previous owner......Very nice car, Glad to see the upgraded brakes, One of my few complaints with the car. Do like original, so not excited withe the wheels, but that's a personal thing. I thought the 500's were in fairly good shape. Good luck to the seller, Great car. ...

Hey there fasttopless! Glad to hear from you and especially that you approve of the disc brake upgrade. What a world of difference it made in the drivability and enjoyment of the car. As for the wheels they were in rough shape so I opted for larger billet versions of the magnum 500s . Repop 14” magnum 500s from summit racing or JEGS are available in the wheel vintiques brand for $149/ea if next owner would prefer that look. The billet aluminum 500s that are currently on the car could be sold to cover the replacement cost, as they were $350/ea and are in mint condition
